Web.com are pioneer providers in the web hosting industry. Having been accredited by BBB since 2005 with an impressive rating of A+, it is only safe to assume that they provide top-notch services to newbie and established customers alike. In this web.com review, you’ll learn the following:
- Web.com Hosting Plans
- Web.com Features
- Speed and Reliability
- Customer Support
- Should You Choose Web.com?
Web.com do not base their business practices solely on web hosting services. In fact, they take huge pride in being able to offer online marketing services to make your site more visible in the Internet realms. Of course, you are expected to pay quite a bit for that extra, but we’ll cover it later on. For now, let’s see why you should consider subscribing to a plan of theirs ASAP!
The pros of using their service are: free domain included in the box, along with a website builder and an impressive 99.99% uptime guarantee. The cons of using their service, on the other hand, are: no live chat support and mobile support for your website.
There are a total of 3 hosting plans that Web.com provide. The first and the cheapest one is entitled “Essential Hosting” and starts from $11.95 per month. It comes packed with 300 GB worth of disk space, unlimited data transfer, 25 FTP accounts and 10 email boxes. For startup companies, these features are more than enough.
The second and best one regarding price/quality ratio is “Professional Hosting” starting at $18.95 per month. It comes packed with 500 GB worth of disk space, unlimited data transfer, 50 FTP accounts and 25 email boxes.
The third one, however, is the pinnacle of their web hosting services. The “Premium Hosting Plan” starts at a whopping $36.95 per month but, in exchange, comes packed with unlimited-everything. All three plans come with a free domain registration in the box, so that’s a nice perk.
There’s no denying in the fact that Web.com offer great services for an affordable price, but what’s more, their entire server architecture is based on Linux and Windows, two most popular operating systems in the world. My personal opinion is that Linux surpasses Windows by far due to the inherent secure nature of Linux (virtually no viruses). Windows is the most preferred choice due to its ease of use and versatility.
Everything that they offer in their 3 hosting plans is suitable if you plan on hosting 400 to 1,000 visitors per day. For more, we recommend upgrading your plan or choosing an alternative web host altogether.
The free domain name you are given upon successful plan subscription is available for one year, then it will automatically be renewed.
You can easily install your favorite one-click install CMS with the widely known cPanel control panel, so you won’t experience any kind of trouble getting your site up and running.
There are additional features available such as SSL certificates, available starting from $24 per year ($1 per month).
My biggest concern with your usual web hosts is that they tend to host more than the shared servers can so as to squeeze as much money as they can out of their rusty servers. There are few complaints about that happening with Web.com, too. A few indeed, but there are, and this is something you may want to consider prior to paying them any dime.
Some also complain about the mediocre loading time of their websites hosted with Web.com. I have personally only gotten the best out of their servers till now, but am not sure whether I am lucky or those reviews spread across the Internet are simply false complaints. I would prefer the latter option, really.
They claim to provide everyone 99% uptime guarantee, but this uptime record is still maintained if their servers are down due to events outside of their control or made by third parties (e.g. DDOS attacks), so if they are down for 5 days, for example, due to a hacker getting bored online, they will still claim to have hosted your site 99.99% of the time. That’s also something to be considered.
There’s no point in further stressing this: customer support is crucial. Even if the web host provides stellar services for a rock-bottom price, and the customer support is lacking, I would immediately weed them out of my list. Just think about all the time you would vainly spend on fixing issues, ugh!
Fortunately, Web.com offer good customer support. Nothing out of the common, but what bugs me about it is that they do not offer live chat. That’s a huge downside as you’ll have to resort to the traditional email inquiry system.
I would recommend this host solely if you put a lot of emphasis on customer reviews and make your decisions based on that. They are BBB accredited, have served tens of thousands of customers till now and are industry pioneers. On top of that, their plans are advantageous, and if you opt for the most expensive one, you get unlimited, or rather unmetered, features. Give their “Essential Hosting” plan a try beforehand, before attempting to splurge on the most expensive one. It’s not that much of a difference anyway except probably for resource allocation.
