Founded in 1999, InterServer is a US Jersey-based company that, for the past 17 years, has managed to accrue and satisfy millions of customers. Having continuously grown in this period, they now have two private data centers in the same New Jersey city and intends to expand to other cities in the US, such as Los Angeles, and even abroad in the possibly near future.
InterServer Review: Hosting Offer
InterServer offer a wide variety of hosting options, such as Shared, VPS and Dedicated Server hosting, along with the popular re-seller hosting option. Let’s make a quick break-down of their offer:
- Shared Hosting
The Shared Hosting plan does not burn a hole in your pocket, since they only charge $4.95 per month for it, with the possibility of negotiating an ever lower price for longer-term subscription (usually exceeding a year or two). As usual, the shared hosting plan offers a wide array of handy features, such as one-click installation software, 24/7 customer support, free migration service (a very handy feature) and unlimited-everything.
- Reseller Hosting
The Reseller Hosting price ranges from only $19.95 per month to $69.95 respectively. More specifically, the plans range from 80 to 240 GB worth of disk space, 500 to 2000 GB worth of bandwidth and are easily manageable through the popular Web Host Manager, exempt from additional setup fees.
- VPS & Cloud Hosting
InterServer offer a wide variety of VPS and Cloud Hosting plans to provide their clients the desired performance and speed that would be otherwise unachievable by using Shared Hosting plans. Linux Cloud VPS starts at only $6 per month, while Windows Cloud VPS starts at only $10 per month. Both are subsequently divided in multiple options, depending on your CPU, memory and storage needs, although not exceeding by much the root price.
InterServer: My Personal Opinion
Based on the aforementioned advantages InterServer offer, you should normally have a positive outlook over their services. I personally believe their supply is more than reasonable, and here’s more proof to justify my choice:
- Highly Customizable VPS Plan
Having personally tried InterServer’s VPS plan recently, I can immediately vouch for the quickness, stability and customizable-ness of the VPS. You can toy around with absolutely anything you wish, such as control panels and allocated RAM and CPU power. Unlike other companies which basically force you to pay for add-ons, InterServer only requires you to pay for what you strictly need, which is a big plus.
- Blistering Load Times
I was completely astonished by the load time my SSD-powered site had, and you’ll see it for yourself should you consider subscribing to any hosting plan.
- 100% Up-time Guarantee
I normally don’t go with any host that provides less than 99% up-time guarantee per month. After all, you pay for an entire month worth of hosting, and any half measures should not be accepted by anyone. No need to worry though, as InterServer managed to even over-deliver, with 99.5% uptime and in some lucky months even 100% up-time, which is neat and definitely proves they give due respect to each one of their customers.
- Zilch Unpleasant Surprises
What I personally like about InterServer is that they provide you a clear SLA (Service Level Agreement) to abide by. Should they not fulfill all the contents of the contract accordingly, you will be contacted by them and negotiate your due compensation. For example, if they fail to deliver at least 99% uptime per month, they have not fully respected the contents of their contract, thus you deserve to be compensated.
- Price Lock Guarantee
Another great thing about InterServer is that they do not lure you into trying their services by promising you rock-bottom prices that will eventually raise. They instead offer you a price which remains constant throughout the contract. The only way they will be able to charge you more is if you opt for additional services or if the price universally increases as a result of inflation, for example.
- InterServer are pioneers in this industry
Having been founded in 1999, it goes without saying they are accredited experts in this domain. While some people do not tend to give this aspect too much importance, to me, the longevity simply shouts “Hey, we’ve been in the game for decades, so of course we’re experienced!”. As a result, it’s an important aspect to consider.
The Downsides of Using InterServer
Unfortunately, there is no such thing as “perfect provider”, so there are some flaws that are highly commendable to be mentioned.
- InterServer’s Unlimited Features Are, In Fact, Pretty Limited;
Specifically, their shared hosting offer claims to provide you “unlimited everything”, while this is simply misleading. When you access your control panel, you’ll find that there are many limits attached to your account. Do know this is a very, very common marketing stunt widely used by many companies in this industry, and even if they did offer you unlimited everything, your site would easily become unstable, as it’s shared hosting we’re talking about here, not dedicated.
- VPS Hosting – Not For the Non-Savvy;
If you want to take the route of VPS Hosting, you must know that I had a pretty hard time getting around to using it. I actually spent hours solely on learning the very basic ropes, so if you don’t want allocate this extra time to learning, well, you would be better off not splurging your hard-earned money on it. You’re going to hate it!
InterServer Review: Final Conclusion and Opinion
If you’re in need of reliable services, InterServer might come in very handy. They do have disadvantages, sure, but the advantages outweigh them by a massive margin. After all, there is no such thing as a “perfect company”, but InterServer does come very close to it. They have excellent customer support, attractive offers with great options for scalability and growth and, last but not least, decent pricing. All in all, it’s a company I wholeheartedly recommend you give a try!
