eUKHost is a company based in the United Kingdom which mainly serves UK-based customers. They have been active since 2001 and to this day remain privately owned and are not willing to sell themselves out to a leading brand any time soon.
Their offer comprises the most popular hosting plans available on the market. Having hosted a personal site to their shared servers, I can say that they mostly specialize in providing VPS and dedicated hosting as you’ll see later on in this review.
What I really like about them as a whole is the fact they serve only a total of 35,000 customers from the UK and the rest of the world, which usually means that the company is more reliable, secure and willing – or rather capable – to help each customer via the provided contact methods with a more “personal” approach.
Prior to subscribing to a hosting plan of theirs, I read a few reviews about their services. I was surprised to see that only a few reviews were negative while the others were mostly positive or neutral. To me, that proves a lot about the respective company.
eUKHost are primarily based in Durham, England, with an offshoot office located in London. They have a comprehensive offer in the box, and claim that all of their servers work on Windows and Linux platforms.
They offer a total of four hosting plans: shared, VPS, Dedicated and a signature plan called “Semi-dedicated” hosting.
With regard to the shared hosting plans, there are a total of five different options, the features of which (disk space, bandwidth and domains) vary according to your needs. The shared hosting plans they offer are ideal for small blogs and business on the lookout for a quick, reliable and secure way of conducting their day-to-day activities. Provided you do not want to mess with unnecessary technicalities, all shared plans also comprise additional tools designed to help you get started ASAP, such as Site Builder software and several scripting options.
Moving on, the VPS packages EUKH offer are made available in small, medium and large. Obviously, VPS plans are better quality-wise than shared plans and are ideal for medium-sized business in need of more control over their allotted server.
If you plan on building an authority site accruing tens of thousands of unique visitors per day, dedicated hosting plans are bound to cater to you the most as they offer, in my honest opinion, the best price/quality ratio among hosting plans.
We all know how costly it can get to rent a dedicated server, and so do the folks at eUKHost. In order to parry any skepticism coming from newbies, they offer the so-called “semi-dedicated” hosting which is a unique combination between VPS and dedicated hosting designed to offer the same benefits as dedicated server do but with a significantly lower price tag attached to it.
The hosting plans are comprehensive, but when it comes to their money back policy, it’s … standard. They offer a 30-day money back guarantee in addition with a 99.95% uptime guarantee, which is again standard if not slightly below it. I was lucky enough to get 100% website uptime during my trial month, but it’s not a guarantee they will be able to provide this kind of performance continuously.
As previously stated, you get a 30-day money back guarantee with all hosting plans in addition with a 99.95% uptime guarantee. I could not find any SLA which backs me up should they not be able to honor their promise, but I suppose that if you personally contact them about any arising uptime issue, you will be able to negotiate a compensation.
Speaking of getting in touch with them, you can contact them via e-mail, live chat and an in-house ticket system. I found that their customer support is really top-notch, although I could sometimes sense that the person I was speaking with was not the most versed in the English language. If your assigned tech support guy cannot help you, you can request to be redirected to a supervisor which will offer additional help within reason. That’s pretty nice, although the fact they outsource their customer support abroad can be frustrating for some.
Now, the thing about eUKHost is that they do not really wish to compete too much with the more leading brands as they seem to be happy serving only 35,000 – some of them repeat – customers. Consequently, they don’t have the cheapest plans on the market, but not the most expensive ones either. They are moderately-priced. Them being independent is a huge bonus as well.
I’m not a huge fan of VPS and dedicated hosting plans, as I personally prefer hosting small-sized blogs without any plan to scale them up to the point of resorting to more resourceful plans. Still, they do seem to emphasize their offer a lot on these and rather undermine the shared hosting plans. Fret not, as all plans are qualitative in essence. Good luck!
