AltusHost is a Netherlands-based company founded in 2008, having data centers spread in various places of Europe such as Amsterdam, Stockholm and Windhof. Unlike many other web hosting providers, the folks at AltusHost have private suites dedicated to their servers, so you can rest assured you always get the best bang for your hard-earned buck. Owing to this perk and many others, the company has been continuously developing for the past 8 years and has now become the first stop for serious entrepreneurs in need to host their projects on the Internet.

AltusHost Hosting Plans

As customary, AltusHost offer a wide array of hosting services, such as shared, dedicated and VPS hosting, subsequently divided in packages that are designed to cater to as many budgets as possible.

Shared Hosting

As a general rule, shared hosting should normally be considered only for small-sized blogs and companies, or start-up projects that require extensive prior testing. When it comes to what AltusHost can specifically provide you, there is a lot to cover.

First off, AltusHost use their own equipment to operate the whole shared hosting network, which for you, the consumer, means that you can easily install software such as WordPress in one click, which is a pretty neat perk to consider.

Shared Hosting Packages

AltusHost offer four main shared hosting packages as follows:

  • The Nano Package

The Nano package offers, for a nominal $4.95 per month, 5 GB worth of disk space, 100 GB monthly bandwidth and “limited” to-be-parked domains capacity. It is a great option for small-sized blogs and start-up projects alike. Add a coupon and it is going to be a steal!The

  • Bronze Package

The Bronze package essentially doubles the aforementioned features, with 10 GB worth of disk space and 200 GB monthly bandwidth. All of this for only $7.95 per month!

  • The Pico package

The Pico package comes fully packed with a whopping 15 GB worth of disk space and 300 GB monthly bandwidth. If you thought that the Nano package is a steal though, well, this one only costs $9.95. How about that?

  • The Tera package

And now, the pinnacle of AltusHost’s shared hosting services. The Tera package comes with 20 GB worth of disk space and 500 GB monthly bandwidth. All of it for a token fee of $14.95.

AltusHost VPS Hosting

With Virtual Private Server hosting from AltusHost, all of your worries are instantly erased, since their most standard VPS hosting package includes setup, software installation, security monitoring and 24/7 technical support, along with many other complimentary perks which essentially allow you to focus on your project itself rather than wasting time on setting up all the technical jibber-jabber yourself. The VPS hosting offering is divided in 3 main platforms: OpenVZ, Windows and XEN.

  • OpenVZ

The OpenVZ hosting price ranges from $19.95 to $59.95 per month for 512 to 4096 MB worth of RAM, two to six CPU cores, 20 to 160 GB disk space and 1000 to 4000 MB worth of bandwidth.

  • XEN VPS

The XEN VPS’ price ranges from $24.95 to $69.96 per month and features 512 to 4096 MB of RAM, 20 to 160 GB of disk space, two to six CPU cores and 1000 to 4000 MB of premium bandwidth.

  • Windows VPS

Although slightly more expensive than Open VZ and XEN VPS, the Windows VPS could potentially fulfill more of your needs. Depending on the required performance, the Windows VPS’ price range falls anywhere between $29.95-$74.95 per month for 500 to 3000 MB of monthly bandwidth, two to six CPU cores and 512 to 4096 MB worth of memory.

Dedicated Server Hosting

For the more computer-savvy of you, the folks at AltusHost proudly offer dedicated hosting packages which allow you to venture yourself into the technical abyss. There are three dedicated server hosting offers to opt for:

1. Intel Core i3-200 with 4 GB worth of memory and a modern 500 GB SATA II hard drive, starting from a nominal $149.95;

2. Intel Xeon E3-1270 with 16 GB worth of memory and two(!) 1,000 GB SATA II hard drivers, starting from $299.95;

3. Intel Xeon ER-1240 servers with middle-ground memory and hard drive options, starting from a reasonable $249.95;

However, if you are in need of even more dedicated power, the folks at AltusHosting have luckily introduced enterprise-level dedicated hosting, available via three main packages: SS1, MC2 and MC3.

The MC2 and MC3 levels feature fully redundant power supplies, an industry standard that is unfortunately not included in every hosting provider’s offering, and which guarantees a unique 100% uptime per month!

AltusHost Payment Methods

Since AltusHost’s main priority is full customer satisfaction, they are constantly striving to offer as many payment methods as possible. The main payment methods offered at checkout are as follows: PayPal, Payza, WebMoney, Visa, MasterCard and, as of recently, bitcoin transfers. There’re wide variety of payment options for you to choose from, just like other reputable web hosting provider such as Hostgator or Greengeeks.

The Bad Side of AltusHost

They definitely excel at offering one of the best hosting services on the market, but they do have some disadvantages unfortunately, mostly refund-policy-related. Namely, although they do have a 45-day refund policy, it is only available to share hosting plan holders. VPS subscribers only benefit from a 14-day refund option, while the dedicated server hosting buyers do not have any refund options available at all, so if you’re not satisfied with the service, you cannot get your money back at all.

AltusHost Review: Overall Impression

While their refund policy is very strict and stiff, we believe that this being the sole disadvantage of opting for their service does not outweigh the considerable advantages that you receive in return, and we definitely recommend you give their plans a try. In order to make yourself a personal opinion of this service, we recommend you “splurge” $5 on testing the waters with the most basic shared hosting plan that they offer.
